He was really skating on thin ice.
A Dutchman has gone viral for skating half-naked on a frozen canal – and plunging into it after the ice cracked.
Seen in a video nearly 7 million times Tuesday morning on Twitter, the unknown man wore tight black shorts when he slid down the Keizersgracht in Amsterdam.
His feet suddenly sank under a chunk of cracked ice, turning him into a flying Dutchman as he shot forward and crashed through the rest with his face forward.
Soon, not only the ice broke, but those watching him too, with the clip posted Sunday capturing his audience screeching and laughing as he raised his head to show he was safe.
After initially looking dazed, the skater joked about his “face plant” – and bowed after finally being brought to safety by another skater on a thicker piece of ice.
A whole series of accidents recently prompted Prime Minister Mark Rutte to warn his country, while he admitted that “skating on natural ice makes the hearts of many Dutch people beat faster”.
Rutte was particularly concerned about the fact that people were hospitalized during the pandemic and that they were putting themselves at risk by forgoing safety protocols, NL Times noted.
“Unfortunately, all those terrible coronavirus measures apply to that ice. It is not the case that the cold makes the virus less contagious, certainly not ”, says Rutte. “So enjoy it wisely, keep your distance and stay at home when it gets too busy. Stick to all measures and, above all, prevent hospitals from getting even busier due to all kinds of bone fractures. ”
