Treasury Secretary Francisco Parés Alicea this afternoon provided an update on the shipping of the $ 600 incentive check to Puerto Rican families, of which 200,000 have already received the deposit.
According to Parés Alicea, about $ 190 million was distributed today on the first day of direct deposits.
As for the rest of the people who should receive the benefit, Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Tax Department, Roxanna Santiago, assured that the distribution plan states that the $ 600 will be sent daily to 200,000 families.
“200,000 were shipped yesterday, another 200,000 deposits will be sent today, and so on, the plan is to reach 2.8 million families in three to four weeks,” said Santiago.
The Treasury Secretary, for his part, explained that the agency has about 30 days to pay the payments to all citizens, which so far numbers the 2.8 million people named by the Deputy Secretary.
Parés Alicea assured that this was a “historic day for the Ministry of Finance” due to the record time in which payments began to be processed.
In addition, he claimed that 95% of people who asked for the payment will receive it directly without taking any action. He also recalled that as far as people received the previous $ 1,200 stimulus check, this second payment will be made directly.
In the near future, the secretary assured that about $ 600 million will be distributed over the next few days to approximately 700,000 families randomly selected by the agency’s engineering team.
