Guilty Gear Strive’s second open beta test confirmed and lobby changes detailed

The new Developer’s Backyard provides some insight after the previous beta

A second open beta test for Guilty Gear Strive after the game’s delay last month, and now we seem to finally have confirmation of the next iteration’s existence.

Arc System Works has now released the Developer’s Backyard 4 for Strive, which dives more into the future beta, as well as what changes they plan to make to the game’s poorly received lobby system.

“We are planning a second open beta test based on the feedback from the players,” reads the bottom section of the developer post. “Timing has yet to be determined, so keep an eye out for future updates.”

Given Strive’s new June 11 release date, the latest ArcSys would likely have this bonus opportunity to get back to the game in early May, so there should be a date anytime now.

The developers say they want to run the beta once the planned lobby changes are complete.

Strive’s online lobbying system was by far the lowest-rated mode in the post-beta survey, with over 50 percent of respondents rating it as bad or very bad.

To address the issues in the latest beta, ArcSys says they will be making the following changes to the updated lobbies:

• Switch to a system where players select a visible area where they want to have a match

• After winning a match, the player remains where he is in a combat-ready state unless his rating changes

• Add a resit option

• Expand the area in each lobby, add an option to hide the news view and add a dash gesture for avatars.

These tweaks will likely make the Strive lobbies work in the same way as the developer’s previous titles, although it sounds like they’re clearly sticking to the mode’s 2D multi-level stages.

It wasn’t confirmed in the post here, but the release chart for Guilty Gear Strive seems to show that the second beta will again only be available to PlayStation owners with digital pre-orders granting one day early access.
