The long-awaited week has finally arrived for Guilty Gear Strive’s open beta, and Arc System Works has caught up with people on how to play all the characters present to date.
Now they have released the latest starter guide to the basic mechanics and systems available in Strive, including the new Roman Cancel, as professional players and streamers were given early access to the beta to show the fighting game in action.
There are obvious things like how to guard against movement, although some might joke that blocking is something new to Guilty Gear, but there are more interesting aspects to it than the basics.
Instant Block and Faultless Defense are back for Strive in much the same way as in previous games, although there appears to be a new layer to combine the two together.
While IB reduces pushback, Instant Faultless Defense carries over the denial of chip damage and further pushback from FD at the expense of the meter, making it even more effective.
Roman Cancels have changed a bit from previous games, with Yellow now being used for more defensive purposes, while Purple seems to have been combined with what Yellow used to do at startup.
However, the most interesting and exciting change to the iconic system is the new mechanic that allows players to travel a remarkable distance on activation when a dash is entered directly in front of the RC, opening the door to a whole lot of new possibilities.
Ahead of pre-orders and the general population diving online, Arc System Works handed out early beta codes to the biggest streamers and best players in the FGC to show real-time matches.
General players will be able to download the beta client on PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 starting February 18 at 7:00 p.m. PT, while those who reserved a digital copy will be able to receive the day before.
As of reporting, the servers will be offline again – but scheduled to return later today – so archive footage can be found on Twitch for players like Maximilian_Dood, Panda | Justin Wong, Jiyuna, Kizzie Kay, EG | SonicFox and a lot of others you’d expect to enter.
