His statement comes in response to a request from Pérez, who told him in a direct tweet: “The Ecuadorian people are asking us for an agreement. I invite you to a dialogue in Quito CNE to request, along with the other candidates, the opening of the polls and a vote by ballot with a delegate from each party and in front of the OAS observers. I guarantee that after we honestly know the results, we will accept the popular decision.

The Guayaquil candidate was confident that with the CNE scrutiny, he will be in the second round of elections scheduled for April 11, the same round contested with Pérez.

“The investigations are nearing completion and the trend of the second round continues. Ecuadorians reaffirm their confidence in us. In this second round we are determined to win,” he exclaimed, calling for ‘national unity’.

According to the results of the official electoral body count, Lasso so far has 19.72% of the valid votes in his favor; while Pérez reaches 19.42%.

For her part, CNE president Diana Atamaint verbally supported Pérez’s request to demonstrate the “transparency” with which the electoral process was developed, she said.
