Guardians with joint custody receive half of the $ 600 for each minor

About 2.8 million people in Puerto Rico are expected to receive the $ 600 economic stimulus payment. These are individuals, couples or dependents.

In the latter case, the payments for qualified dependents will be $ 600 for a single guardian, while in cases of joint custody, each guardian will receive $ 300 per child.

Under the federal law giving way to this second $ 600 round of payment, known as the COVID-related Tax Relief Act of 2020 (CRTRA, for the acronym in English), these additional $ 600 payments will be received by individuals with a valid social security, who resided in Puerto Rico during the tax year and who are not dependents on another person’s income tax return.

Another population that will benefit from this will be inmate people, who will be able to receive the $ 600 benefit.

In addition, no withholding is given for outstanding debts with the Minors Support Administration (ASUME).

In the case of married couples, at least one of them must have a Social Security number that is validated with IRS protocols.
