although Grand Theft Auto V. has been all the rage for nearly a decade at this point, many fans still have a soft spot for the entry that preceded it in GTA IV. Luckily for that fanbase, the fourth installment in the long-running series might be getting a major graphics overhaul soon that would make it much easier to return to in the future.
In a new project called RevIVe from BisonSales, a new group of modders is essentially looking for remasters Grand Theft Auto IV with modern visuals. So far what has been shown looks pretty incredible. This feat takes advantage of the iCEnhancer 4 beta mod to enhance the graphics fidelity of GTA IV. This includes revisions to the textures, lighting, and even the overall performance of the game.
For now, iCEnhancer and RevIVe have only released a first video showing this graphics mod in action (which you can watch above), but what’s highlighted looks excellent. While there is still a lot of work to be done on the project, the textures seen in this new iteration of Liberty City are consistent with what we’ve come to expect from next-generation titles.
At the moment this RevIVe project is still very early in its development and may take a little longer to release. The creators have said this is just something they are currently working on in their spare time, but they want to raise more money through Patreon so they can spend more time creating it.
The other only major drawback to this mod is that it will obviously only be available to those on PC once it arrives. While PlayStation and Xbox games have worked more with mods over the years, GTA IV is far too old to allow this. If you want to play the game on a console, you can do this by digging out your PS3 or by playing on Xbox One or Xbox Series X / S via backward compatibility.
All in all, when this RevIVe mod eventually sees the light of day, it’s going to be a really impressive feat and it certainly will GTA IV that much more attractive to visit again. If there are any further developments in the making of this mod in the future, we will let you know on our dedicated GTA cover page.
So what do you think of this sleek new look for GTA IV? Is it enough to make you want to play the game again? Give me your thoughts in the comments or give me a call on Twitter @Marijkegroot to talk more.
