Greta Thunberg snaps UN climate conference on coronavirus ‘vaccination nationalism’

In November, world leaders will descend to Glasgow, Scotland, for the UN climate conference – but the world’s most famous climate activist, Greta Thunberg, has no plans to attend. In a Friday morning Twitter thread, the 18-year-old said she would like to attend the conference but will refuse to do so when the global vaccine rollout remains so uneven. “Inequality and climate injustice are already at the heart of the climate crisis,” she wrote. “If people cannot be vaccinated and travel to be equally represented, it is undemocratic and the problem would only get worse.” Thunberg said the UK government should postpone the conference until more of the world’s population has access to vaccines. “We don’t have to wait for conferences, nobody or anything else to drastically reduce our emissions.” she wrote. British media have reported that the conference could be postponed again to 2022, but the government firmly believes that as many as 30,000 people could attend the conference.
