Nine Greenpeace activists were arrested Friday for painting part of an Air France plane green at an airport, in a protest that raised safety concerns.
Aeroports de Paris (ADP), the entity responsible for the French capital’s airports, said activists entered Charles de Gaulle airport by climbing a fence at the edge of the runway.
Using an extended roller, they painted the side of an airline’s Boeing 777 parked with no passengers, then boarded the plane. Several activists refused to get out despite orders from security personnel.
ADP said the activists “were immediately intercepted and repressed by the police. They were therefore unable to access the slopes. Civil aviation did not run any risk and air traffic just continues ”.

Greenpeace said the purpose of the protest was to draw attention to the “eco-money laundering” of climate change and environmental regulations. He also said it was organized in preparation for a debate on a climate law in the French parliament.
“We would like to strongly remind you that the technological innovations so highly praised by Transport Minister Jean-Baptiste Djebbari will not be enough to curb the climate crisis,” the group said on Twitter.
The National Union of Airline Pilots condemned the incident and defended the aviation industry against the activists’ allegations. “Today, companies buy planes that use between 2 and 3 liters per passenger per 100 kilometers, which is what a hybrid car uses,” he said.
