Governor Wanda Vázquez Garced announced on Wednesday that she has amended the executive decree 2020-087 in effect against COVID-19, as it has eliminated the ban on consumption, sale and sale of alcoholic beverages on Saturdays and Sundays, and can open stores within curfew, not limited to 8.30pm
These changes are effective immediately.
“We have seen, gracefully, a decrease in hospital admissions for COVID-19 in recent days. Since the beginning of December, the number of hospital admissions has fallen by 30% with about 200 cases less than a few weeks ago, thanks to the measures we have taken. This means hospital capacity remains at a manageable level and Puerto Rico has fallen to a yellow alert level, for which we have decided to make the order more flexible in some respects by lifting the ban on the sale of alcoholic beverages on Saturdays and Sundays , and allow authorized companies to work within curfew, from 5:00 am to 9:00 pm, ”explains Vázquez Garced.
He clarified that the curfew remains as it is, including the “lock down” on Sundays. The occupancy rate in restaurants and other establishments remains at 30% capacity.
“It’s important not to be on the lookout because we still run the risk of contamination. But just as we limit measures when the number of cases increases, we also relax by seeing fewer hospital admissions as a result of the virus, which can increase the capacity in hospitals. We want the well-being of all the people living on this island, ”added the governor.
The Executive Order is effective until January 7, 2021.
