Government Beshear reports 2,946 new cases; 8.53% positivity percentage

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) – Governor Andy Beshear has provided an update on COVID-19 cases.

Government Beshear reported 2,946 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, bringing the state’s total to 227,818 cases. The governor says the state sees a positivity rate of 8.53 percent. Of Tuesday’s new cases, 340 are in children 18 or younger.

The governor says today’s new cases are lower than last Tuesday’s and Tuesday’s total.

There were 15 reported COVID-19-related deaths on Tuesday. The state’s death total is now 2,239.

Deaths reported Tuesday include a 68-year-old man from Boyd County; a 62-year-old woman from Caldwell County; a 77-year-old and 80-year-old man from Daviess County; an 88-year-old woman from Graves County; a 77-year-old man from Hardin County; five men from Jefferson County, ages 61, 64, 78, 83, and 92; a 90-year-old man from McCracken County; and three Ohio County women, aged 87, and two, both 91.

As of Tuesday, 1,788 people have been hospitalized for COVID-19-related reasons, 438 are in the ICU and 246 on fans. At least 32,234 Kentuckians have recovered from the virus.

The governor reported two more deaths at the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center, bringing the total to 33.
