Government announces a batch of a million vaccines against Covid-19 from China will arrive in El Salvador next Sunday

This will be the first batch to be purchased from the Chinese company SINOVAC and will consist of 1 million doses, said President Nayib Bukele.

One million vaccines from China will enter national territory tomorrow, President Nayib Bukele said.

According to the president, the vaccines are part of a party that the government has bought from the company Sinovac, which is considered one of the largest vaccine development laboratories in the world.

The time of arrival of the vaccines has not yet been confirmed, but the Ministry of Health and the Presidency’s press secretariat have called on the media to be at El Salvador International Airport at 5:00 a.m.

The event to receive the vaccines will be attended by Minister of Health Francisco Alabí, enlarged cabinet officials and the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the country, Ou Jianhong.

Hours earlier, Bukele announced that from Tuesday, March 30, the vaccination process for teachers of the public and private system will begin so that the new batch can be used to administer the doses to teachers before classes begin.

The details about the costs or the procedures for acquiring this lot from the Sinovac company are unknown, as the government has laid out all the information related to the national vaccination plan all their acquisition processes with reservation and for a period of three to five years.

The health portfolio justified the action in Section D of Section 19 of the Access to Public Information Act, which states that it is confidential information “that clearly endangers a person’s life, safety or health”.

Last Monday, March 22, the third batch of vaccines from the Covax system arrived in national countries, containing more than 51,400 doses of the developer Pfizer. At the time, the government had expected them to be used to vaccinate members of the armed forces and the police.

A day earlier, and always under the Covax mechanism, 33,600 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine arrived in the country, the same company that produced those that entered the country on February 17 in an initial batch containing 20,000 doses of the vaccine and that they had been taken over by the government.

This batch, from China, will be the largest in terms of the number of doses it will deliver.

With this new batch arriving in the country tomorrow, El Salvador would reach over 1 million 100,000 doses of vaccines received.
