Google TV is bringing new parental controls to its streaming device.
The company announced that starting Monday, parents or guardians can now create individual profiles for each of the children in their household with their name and age or an existing Google account, they must have one. From these new profiles, account holders can add specific apps, upload movies purchased on other devices, custom wallpapers, and additional avatars for their user profile in the coming weeks.
Account holders can protect their normal accounts with a PIN to prevent their children from accessing more mature content from those user profiles. Parental controls for the child accounts also allow account holders to set daily screen time limits and a bedtime. Google says the child profiles will hit the device in the US this month, followed by a wider global rollout “in the coming months.”
Most important garlands and device manufacturers introduced additional programming for kids and parental controls for content, and Google TV’s features were before expected to arrive this month.
Apple, meanwhile, is also focusing on delivering quality content for kids, both in the Apple TV + experience and most recently on the podcast front. In partnership with Common Sense Media, the company launched a Kids & Family podcast hub this week that can suggest content by age, according to the Hollywood Reporter
