Google, Microsoft among corporate donors at Biden’s inauguration

Alphabet Inc.’s Google and Microsoft Corp. is among more than 960 organizations and individuals who have donated more than $ 200 for President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration, according to a list released by the committee that organizes the event.

The committee did not provide individual totals or provide additional details about the donations.

Other companies that have donated include Qualcomm Inc., cable providers Comcast Corp. and Charter Communications Inc., Boeing Co., and insurer Anthem Inc. The Presidential Inaugural Committee also received donations from the American Federation of Teachers and the United Food and Commercial Workers.

Notable individuals who gave include former California Senator Barbara Boxer and singer Barbra Streisand.

For individuals, the Inaugural Commission provided only the state where individuals reside. It will be required to report detailed information about donors’ employers and addresses to the Federal Electoral Commission by April 15.

The inauguration, which was already drastically scaled back due to the coronavirus pandemic, will be kept under particularly tight security. It comes just days after supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol in a riot that left five dead, including a police officer.

In his last message before Twitter banned Trump, he said he would not be attending. Vice President Mike Pence will break from the president and be in attendance, but two people familiar with his plans said.

Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris had asked the Americans to stay home and celebrate his inauguration virtually on January 20.

After consulting with public health officials, the presidential inaugural committee said it would not hold the traditional mass rally at the National Mall. The committee also announced that the traditional parade will be reinvented after the inauguration from the Capitol to the White House. Few other details about the day have been released, including how Biden will deliver his inaugural address.
