Google launches ‘Pixel for Business’ to acquire business buyers

With Android Enterprise, Google has been working over the years to get operating system devices into more business environments. Made by Google is now promoting Pixel phones as ‘Made for Business’.

The “Pixel for Business” site – pixel.google/business – calls “The Google Phone” “built for business” for three reasons.

“Safe and secure, all by design” emphasizes Google’s custom Titan M chip, first introduced with the Pixel 3 in 2018, to protect the boot loader, preventing the OS from rolling back to previous versions. and protecting data on the device. Next up is biometric security (facial unlocking on the Pixel 4 and the Pixel Imprint fingerprint sensor on everything else), 3 years of OS and security updates, Google Play Protect for app scanning, and government / enterprise security certifications (Common Criteria / NIAP, FIPS 140-2, STIG).

“Easily and seamlessly manage devices” focuses on ease of enterprise deployment with zero-touch enrollment requiring no manual installation, configuration via management APIs, and Android Enterprise Recommended status. For end users, there is the Work profile to separate personal information from company data and Managed Google Play that allows IT to determine which apps can be installed.

Help when and where you need it is even more consumer-centric by highlighting the Google Assistant and downloading the latest version of Android, while Gmail, Docs, Duo, and Meet are touted as “instantly integrated.” It is even advertised that 5G Duo allows HD screen sharing. This is followed by the Pixel’s Adaptive Battery feature and call screen to avoid unknown callers / robocalls. While it makes sense why the camera isn’t flagged – outside of using video calling, it’s somewhat odd to omit the main feature.

The ‘Google Phones’ tab focuses on the Pixel 4a, 4a 5G and 5 – there are PDF brochures for each device, through the page are quite a few images of the Pixel 4 – including one (seen below) where the camera bumps is strangely photoshopped on the wrong side. The page was introduced quite recently and it features the updated Google Workspace icons.

In addition to brief mentions that the a-line is highly successful, Google has never shared Pixel sales figures. Attracting business customers for enterprise deployment isn’t a bad way to increase the number of units shipped next to the consumer market each generation. Businesses buy in large quantities and Google could work to keep them so upgrade cycles are guaranteed.

Google’s final answer to why businesses should buy Pixel is as follows:

Pixel is designed with all the tools and technology to support your business needs in hardware, software and built-in AI. It offers advanced security features along with security and OS updates for a minimum of three years. It also comes with software to help you and your employees perform more efficiently. And it can be easily integrated and managed by you to ensure the workflow always meets your standards. Additionally, Pixel is part of the Android Enterprise Recommended program, which means that it has been verified by Google to meet enterprise-grade performance, consistency, and security update requirements.
