Hints that the ax was coming were noticed by XDA Developers on Thursday via the code in the latest version of Google’s Shopping app, which allows users to shop and purchase from thousands of stores with their Google Accounts. The news was later confirmed by 9to5Google, which stated that the apps will go dark, but will continue to work until June. However, this does not mean that Google Shopping will disappear. The web version and the Shopping tab in Google Search will still be great.
“In a few weeks, we will no longer support the Shopping app,” a Google spokesperson told 9to5Google. “All the functionality that the app offered to users is available on the Shop tab. We will continue to develop features on the Shopping tab and other Google platforms, including the Google app, that make it easy for people to discover and buy the products they like. “
The retail outlet reported that some users who upgraded to version 59 of the Google Shopping app received a message that the app was unavailable for the past few days.
“The app is currently unavailable, but you can continue shopping at shopping.google.com,” the message read.
