Gonzalo assures that the PLD will grow stronger after the Central Committee election

Former Minister of Public Works and Communications, Gonzalo Castillo, confirmed this Sunday that the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) will be “strengthened” after the election of members to the Central Committee.

Castillo offered these statements after being approached by members of the press upon his arrival at the PLD’s national home at around noon to cast his vote.

In addition, the former presidential candidate said he was satisfied with these internal elections and qualified them as orderly, peaceful and democratic.

“Very pleased with how the process is going, very orderly, peaceful, very democratic, the party will come out very strengthened from tomorrow’s results,” said the former official, adding that the PLD celebrates events like this in this way.

However, Castillo declined to answer questions about the rise of agricultural products and as to who the future candidate for the presidency of the republic might be within the purple party, indicating that now is not the time to discuss these issues.

The elections

On this day, the PLD will hold internal votes to elect about 300 new Central Committee members, with 973 candidates taking part for 110 seats at the national level and 190 at the local level.

To this end, 164,249 base committee presidents were convened, including members of the Central Committee, provincial, municipal, district presidents, and intermediate committees across the country.

Electronic voting was again imposed in these elections, just as in the 2019 primaries.

For the occasion, they will be held in 374 constituencies, with 381 tables in public schools, clubs, community centers and others, while approximately 6,000 members and leaders will perform in the operational section.

According to the PLD’s secretary of electoral affairs and member of the organizing committee of the IX Congress, Danilo Díaz, the results will be sent from the same voting tables, while 100 percent of the results will be announced next Monday, February 15.
