Goldman Sachs Group Inc. considering investing in digital assets, a US bank’s latest move to enter the world of cryptocurrency, website CoinDesk reported.
The New York-based bank made a request for information to at least one crypto-custody player in late 2020, according to the portal, which quoted an unidentified person. Goldman’s initiative was part of a broad digital strategy, CoinDesk said.
Goldman Sachs representatives did not immediately respond to messages asking for comment during weekend hours.
Goldman’s possible entry would be the latest in a broader trend to introduce digital currencies into US banking. Earlier this month, Anchorage Digital Bank became the first cryptocurrency company win a charter from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.
