Golden statue of Trump ridiculed online at CPAC

A golden statue from the past President TrumpDonald Trump Jr. calls Bruce Springsteen’s dropped charges ‘liberal privilege’ Schiff sees challenges facing intelligence committee, community in Trump’s shadow McConnell says he would back Trump as 2024 GOP nominee MORE was revealed late on Thursday at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Orlando, Florida, which quickly made fun of social media users, many of whom likened it to the Golden Calf’s Old Testament account.

Video showed the image is rolled out through corridors during the annual right-wing conference. The structure includes a gold figure of Trump wearing a jacket and red tie, paired with American flag shorts and flip flops.

Several people stopped to pose by the statue, with one woman saying “Great” and another saying “That’s so cool.” Another person can then be heard in the video starting to sing, “Four more years.”

Despite the praise of those in attendance, social media users argued that the statue showed some conservatives’ unhealthy obsession with Trump, with one Twitter user jokingly saying, “I asked CPAC if they were afraid of offending God with a golden Trump statue and they said ‘Trump is God’. ”

Others, including the founder and director of the University of Virginia Center for Politics Larry Sabato, associated the image with the book of Exodus.

In the Old Testament story, the Golden Calf was worshiped by the Israelites in the absence of Moses when he ascended Mount Sinai. In the Bible, God punished those who worshiped the golden structure in his place, destroying the calf and killing about 3,000 people.

Al Cardenas, former president of the American Conservative Union (ACU), tagged the organization in a Twitter post that shared the video Friday morning, writing, “It boils down to this. Worshiping the Golden Impeached. ”

Trump is expected to speak at CPAC on Sunday, his first public appearance since leaving office and after being acquitted by the senate in his second impeachment trial.

He is expected in his speech, go on the offensive against President Biden, hinting at – but not announcing – a presidential bid for 2024.

The conference will also serve as an opportunity for other GOP 2024 hopeful parties to appeal to members of the party.
