Regina King makes history as the second African-American woman to receive a Best Director nod at the Golden Globes

Oscar winner Regina King made history again after the 78th Golden Globe Award nominations were announced on Wednesday morning.
The 50-year-old Triple Threat is only the second African-American woman to receive a Best Director nomination at the Globes, after Selma filmmaker Ava DuVernay in 2014.
It’s especially impressive when you consider that the acclaimed Amazon Studios drama – based on Kemp Powers’ 2013 play – marked Regina’s directorial debut.

The 39-year-old Tony winner faces stiff competition against Sacha Baron Cohen, Daniel Kaluuya, Jared Leto and Bill Murray.
Leslie and songwriter Sam Ashworth are also in for the best original song for Speak Now, which they will probably play on stage The Beverly Hilton or virtually.

The 78th Golden Globe Awards will air on NBC February 28.
And when the Independent Spirit Awards air on IFC on April 22, the Watchmen actress and her cast One Night in Miami will receive the prestigious Robert Altman Award.
