The 78th Golden Globe Awards started Sunday evening after a delay of nearly two months by the corona pandemic“Nomadland” won the prize for best drama film and “Borat Subsequent Movie Film” won the prize for best comedy. Andra Day won Best Actress in a Drama for “The United States vs. Billie Holiday” en Chadwick Boseman posthumously received the Best Actor in a Drama Award for what became his last film role in ‘Ma Rainey’s black bottom
Chloé Zhao, who directed “Nomadland”, became only the second woman to ever win Best Director. Jane Fonda received the Cecil B. DeMille Award and Norman Lear became the third ever winner of the Carol Burnett Award.
Amy Poehler and Tina Fey hosted the virtual bicoastal ceremony, with Fey presenting from the Rainbow Room in New York City and Poehler presenting from The Beverly Hilton in California, where the award ceremony is traditionally held.
Netflix led the pack with a whopping 42 nominations. ‘Mank’, the streaming service’s film about ‘Citizen Kane’ screenwriter Herman Mankiewicz, received six most nominations of all films this year, although it didn’t take any of these awards. Netflix’s “The Crown” also received six nominations, the most this year for all television series. The historical drama took home awards for Best Drama, Best Actress, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actress.
