GoFundMe for the son of Atlanta victim more than $ 1.5 million in less than a day

A GoFundMe campaign launched by the son of an Atlanta shooting victim has raised more than $ 1.5 million from 38,000 donors in the 19 hours since launch.

Why it matters: Hyun Jung Grant, 51, was one of six Asian women who died in a Gold Spa shootout on Tuesday night. In total, eight people were killed.

  • Grant’s identity was released on Friday, along with details of the other victims.
  • In an update on Friday, her son Randy Park thanked donors and said, “My mom can rest easy knowing I have the support of the world with me.”

What he says: In his first GoFundMe post, Park called his mother “one of my best friends and the biggest influence on who we are today.”

  • Grant was a single mother who provided for herself and two sons in the US on her own
  • “Her loss has put a new lens on my eyes about the amount of hatred that exists in our world.”
  • Park has applied for the funds for the basic necessities of life.

On Friday, Park updated the page with a post expressing his gratitude.

  • “Thank everyone and please share the care and kindness you have shown here to everyone you know who is afraid or unsure about the world we live in,” he added.
