“Glacier Bro” presumably dead after falling into icy water

A Chinese influencer known as “Glacier Bro” is believed to be dead after he was last seen on video losing his balance near icy waters in Tibet.

Wang Xiangjun – who gained followers online by posting videos of visiting glaciers – was exploring a waterfall when he disappeared in Lhari County in northern Tibet on Dec. 20, the BBC reported.

Images posted on Chinese social media platforms showed the 30-year-old slip near the base of the waterfall in the fast-flowing, icy water, the outlet reported.

Local authorities said they launched a search but could not find him.

However, a local official involved in the effort said it was “nearly impossible” for the influencer to survive.

“It could be under an ice floe. The water is 10 to 20 meters deep, ”the official told the Chinese state-run Global Times.

His brother posted a statement on Wang’s social media accounts confirming his death, the Independent reported.

“My brother is forever in his favorite waterfall,” the message said.

“He was obsessed with glaciers all his life while devoting himself to them, and this was the best place for him to rest,” it continued.
