A five-year-old girl who was in a coma two weeks ago after a car accident involving the son of the Kansas City Chiefs head coach has woken up, a family source has confirmed.
The little girl, Ariel Young, remains in the hospital to recover from the February 4 accident.
“Ariel is awake,” wrote Tiffany Verhulst, who organized a GoFundMe to help pay for her medical expenses. Verhulst has not provided any information about her condition.

The crash happened just one exit south of the Chiefs’ training ground in Kansas City, Missouri
Britt Reid, 35, was involved in a multi-vehicle accident on the side of a freeway driveway near the team’s training complex, next to Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.
Britt is no longer employed by the club.
It was initially reported that he was placed on administrative leave, but Adam Schefter of ESPN has since reported that during the term of his contract, which has now expired, he has been placed on leave and ‘he is no longer an employee at the club’.
Reid has not been charged so far in connection with the crash, and police in Missouri say it is unlikely to be charged for at least a month.
“Prosecutors usually want a completed file to file or deny charges, depending on what the evidence would indicate,” police said.

Britt Reid admitted to police that he was driving his Dodge Ram truck that hit a Chevrolet Traverse.
According to reports, the Traverse had arrived to help a Chevrolet Impala that ran out of gas.
Reid’s vehicle first hit the Impala before hitting the Traverse, injuring five-year-old Young and a four-year-old, both in the backseat of the Traverse.
Young people suffered life-threatening injuries, while the four-year-old did not, although both were transported to a local hospital.

Britt Reid’s eyes were bloodshot and the officer smelled “a faint odor of alcoholic beverages,” according to a statement obtained by a police officer through multiple media outlets.
According to the search warrant filed after the accident, Reid reportedly told the officer that he had two to three drinks and that he was also taking the Adderall prescription.

Britt Reid told police he was driving a white Dodge Ram Laramie Sport pickup truck that hit the left side of the Impala when the driver tried to get it to work.
The driver was in the car when Reid hit the vehicle, but was not injured.
The report states that Reid’s Ram then continued to hit the parked Traverse where two children sat in the backseat.
Britt, who has reportedly suffered from DUI, drugs and firearms before, is now under investigation to determine if he had a disability at the time of the crash.
According to a police order, officers could smell “a faint odor of alcoholic beverages” from Reid when they arrived at the scene and noticed that his eyes were laced with blood.
Reid told the officers he had two to three drinks and informed them of his Adderall prescription. The warrant also states that an officer noticed signs of depreciation in Reid.
This isn’t the first time Reid has had issues with the law about possible alcohol consumption and driving.
In 2007, then aged 22, Reid was sentenced to eight to 23 months in prison, plus five years probation, on charges of guns and drugs.

Reid pleaded guilty to carrying an unlicensed firearm, simple assault, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of a criminal instrument in connection with the incident.
According to KSHB, Reid was arrested again seven months later and charged with DUI: controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
His bail was withdrawn from the first arrest and he again pleaded guilty and was sentenced to one to six months in prison in February 2008.
