Gilberto Santa Rosa leads tribute to Johnny Pacheco at Premio Lo Nuestro

Armando Manzanero and Johnny Pacheco, two recently deceased Latin music idols, were honored on Thursday at the Premio Lo Nuestro ceremony, which will be broadcast live on Univision under strict sanitary restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The ceremony began with a tribute to Manzanero in the voices of Alejandra Guzmán, Yuri and Lila Downs who, accompanied by the pianist Arthur Hanlon and more than a dozen musicians, performed a medley of “I’m going to turn off the lights”, “I miss you and “Adoro,” part of the huge songbook left behind by the master of romantic music who died in December of complications from COVID at the age of 85.

Shortly afterwards, Marc Anthony presented the heartfelt tribute to Pacheco, the co-founder of Fania Records who promoted the careers of celebrities such as Celia Cruz, Willie Colón and Rubén Bladés and who died on Monday at the age of 85 after being hospitalized with pneumonia.
