Giants designate Trevor Gott for assignment

The Giants have announced that they have designated the right-handed Trevor Gott for allotment and optioned lefty Sam Selman to their alternative training location. The pair of moves makes room for lefty Jake McGee rightly so Logan Webb to be recovered from the injured list.

This is the second time since the off-season that the Giants have named Gott, who this time was on their roster for only one day. The Giants chose Gott for Monday’s game against the Phillies, although he did not appear. Now that McGee and Webb are back from a brief stay on the COVID list, he’s back in the DFA limbo.

28-year-old Gott is in his third season in the organization of San Francisco, with which he saw considerable action in 2019, a total of 52 2/3 innings. However, the Giants’ reliance on Gott has since diminished. All told, Gott has pitched like a giant to a 5.46 ERA (with a much better 4.23 SIERA) and a 24 percent swipe rate at a running speed of 9.2 percent in 64 1/3 frames.
