In case you weren’t already swimming in streaming service subscriptions, Hulu offers one a monthly subscription of $ 2 with a discount for students. However, keep in mind that if you are long overdue and happen to have a .edu email address, that won’t be enough to qualify you as a ‘student’. Hulu verifies that you really go to school.

The new student plan

The ad-supported plan offers two simultaneous streams that allow you to watch on-demand content, including original programming such as The Handmaid’s Tale and Palm Springs, as well as content from ABC, NBC, Fox, Bravo, USA Network, FXX, and other channels. That’s $ 4 cheaper per month than you would normally get with the plan. The offer – that currently has no end date – will no doubt attract more on-demand users can later are sold to the more expensive live TV service plan.

If you have a Topical subscriber while also enrolled in a U.S. Title IV accredited college or university, you are eligible to switch to the student plan – before that, log into your Hulu account and go here and click “OFFER” to apply student discount pricing to your existing ad-supported Hulu subscription.

The plan includes Hulu’s new ones Watch Party feature, which allows subscribers to view and chat about content in groups of up to eight people. For more information on how that works and how to set it up, check out this Lifehacker post.

You cannot pretend to be a student

It is a public secret that people use their .edu email account to be eligible for student discounts years after graduation, but Hulu actually verifies your status. In partnership with SheerID, the party pooping verification service, you must provide the name of your college or university. For Hulu:

Offer valid for new and existing Hulu bill subscribers enrolled at a US Title IV accredited college or university who meet the verification qualifications. Verification performed via SheerID; Enrollment information (e.g., first name, last name, college / university name, date of birth) must be shared with SheerID for verification purposes. Automatic re-verification is performed annually.

The last time you go to cCollege was during the Obama administration, it looks like you’re out of luck.
