Apple is extending the right to free repair for several older MacBook models with known screen problems.
First, Apple has expanded the 13-inch MacBook Pro ‘s Backlight service program with a year. The program offers free repairs for selected 2016, 2017, and 2018 MacBook Pros with backlight failures. The program started in May 2019 and Apple has extended the free repair period to five years since the first in-store sale, or three years since the start of the repair program – whichever is longer. This means that customers now have until at least May 2022 to have the backlighting of their older MacBook Pro replaced.
The other enhancement is the Anti-Glare Coating Repair feature for 12-inch MacBooks and MacBook Pros with Retina displays (12-inch variants released in 2016 and 2017). This issue has been around for nearly nine years, but Apple began offering free repairs to affected customers in 2015, then expanded coverage in 2017. Apple plans to continue offering free repairs to US customers, according to a report. internal memo obtained and verified by MacRumors, but it will not publicly announce the extension.
If the backlight on your older 13-inch MacBook Pro is not working properly, or the anti-reflective coating on your 12-inch MacBook or MacBook Pro is damaged, you can file a claim through Apple’s support website to start the repair process. From there, you can take your broken MacBook to your local Apple Store or authorized service provider, or email it to Apple.
Keep in mind that all 12-inch MacBooks and MacBook Pros must be emailed to Apple’s support center, even if you bring them to a store in person, so repairs for these models will take longer. MacRumors estimates that it can take up to a week for your MacBook to return after shipment.

You can also request a refund for the repair costs if you’ve already paid to fix any of these issues. To be eligible, your MacBook must be eligible for the applicable repair program and you need a receipt for the repair.
