Gersom Muñoz, aka ‘El Duke’, alleged drug dealer at the request of the United States, falls

Guatemala’s anti-narcotics forces have an alleged one this Friday drug dealer claimed in extradition by the United States, alleged of cocaine trafficking to that country between 2015 and 2016, the prosecution reported.

The alleged drug trafficker, identified as Gersom Muñoz Cifuentes, alias “Dukeor “Duko” was detained in the municipality of La Esperanza, in the west of the Central American country, Juan Luis Pantaleón, spokesman for the Public Prosecution Service, told reporters.

Muñoz is “required to appear for trial” in a court in the Eastern District of Texas (South) State for crimes related to the transfer of cocaine shipments, the official added.

“The investigation identified Muñoz (…) as a member of an organization dedicated to drug transfer, from at least 2015 to at least September 2016, ”he added.

The detainee is the ninth suspected drug trafficker arrested in Guatemala with an extradition request from the US legal system in the first two months of the year.

According to authorities, large international cartels, with the help of local drug traffickers, are using it Guatemala and to the rest of Central America to transport drugs and money laundering activities that influence the criminal violence ravaging the region.
