Georgia’s secretary of state has opened an investigation into whether pro-Trump lawyer Lin Wood voted illegally in the November election.
ABC’s affiliated station in Atlanta, WSB-TV, the investigation into Wood first reported, that Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R) later confirmed to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, NPR and other news broadcasts.

In a statement by email to NBC News, the secretary of state said that the ongoing investigation focuses on whether Wood was “a legal resident when he voted in November in light of an email he sent to [WSB-TV reporter] Justin Gray says he has lived in South Carolina for several months. “
The agency added that under Georgia state law, “if a person moves to another state with the intention of making that person’s residence, that person is deemed to have lost that person’s residence in that state. “
Raffensperger’s office did not immediately respond to The Hill’s request for additional comment.
In a statement sent to WSB-TV and other outlets on Tuesday night, Wood said he had “had been a resident of the state of Georgia since 1955, ‘but had officially changed his residency to South Carolina on Monday.
Wood added in the statement, “This is pure intimidation by the Georgia Secretary of State for disclosing credible evidence of electoral fraud by Brad Raffensperger.”
“They’re trying to destroy me because I’m revealing a level of corruption from top to bottom,” Wood said in comments to the Journal-Constitution. Brad Raffensperger has a lot of trouble with people who were not legitimate Georgian citizens. I am not one of them. “
Raffensperger has repeatedly refuted allegations of voter fraud in Georgia and Trump’s requests in a phone call from January 2 to “Find” more than 11,000 ballots to reverse the Peach State election results. The Washington Post released snippets of the call earlier this month.
Biden won the state of Georgia by more than 11,000 votes in November – the first time a Democrat in the dependable Red State won since 1992, when former President Clinton won a victory there.
State election records revealed that Wood voted in the presidential election during the early personal vote on October 14, although he told WSB-TV that he had not voted in the January Senate election because he did not believe they were legitimate.
Wood was one of many Trump loyalists removed from Twitter in the wake of the January 6 pro-Trump mafia attack at the Capitol, and the city of Detroit earlier that week summoned Wood and other Trump lawyers be suspended on attempts to change the outcome of the presidential election.
