He is arguably one of Hollywood’s most coveted leading men.

But George Clooney has revealed that the beard he grew for his role in The Midnight Sky was a big turnoff for his wife, human rights lawyer Amal Clooney.

The actor, 59, said on Thursday that Amal and their three-year-old daughter, Ella, were “ happy to see it go ” after the footage wrapped.

“My daughter and my wife, perhaps the happiest day I can remember, was the day I shaved it off,” he said on the Today show in Australia. “They were very happy to see it disappear.”

He admitted, however, that his son, Alexander, also three, was a fan of the beard and enjoyed “ sneaking things in. ”

“My son grabbed my beard and pulled my head over to talk to me, so he enjoyed it a bit,” George added.

He snuck things into my beard while I was sleeping. I would have a popsicle on my neck when I went to work. ‘

Not only did George grow a beard for the role, but he also underwent an impressive physical transformation prior to filming.

‘I spent the summer in Italy eating lentil soup and exercising three times a day. I lost about 25 pounds (11 kilograms) because you wanted it [the character] to be quite emancipated, ”he said.

In the film, George plays a scientist who travels through the North Pole with a young girl to contact a crew of returning astronauts in the aftermath of a global catastrophe.

“It’s not often you read a really good script and see a good story,” he said of the film.

‘In my life and in my career, you read one or two scripts a year, and this was one that I read and I thought,’ I’m kind of the right man to play this part. ”
