George Clooney explains why he refused to give his twins Alexander and Ella ‘strange names’

It’s not uncommon for celebrities to give their kids unique and sometimes bizarre names with not-so-obvious meanings.

But it turns out George Clooney had none of that when he and his wife Amal Alamuddin welcomed their twins into the world three and a half years ago.

The rationale of the acclaimed actor was that living under the guise of his fame would create enough trouble for his kids without having weird names.

After being known as the eternal bachelor in the early years of his career, Clooney turned that single, ladies man persona upside down when he married Alamuddin in September 2014.

He went on to earn the title of ‘family man’ when the couple became parents to twins – a boy and a girl – in June 2017.

When the two-time Oscar winner decided what to name their children, he insisted they should not follow the unusual name trend; so they chose Alexander and Ella.

‘I didn’t want weird names for our kids. They will have enough problems already. It’s hard to be the son of someone famous and successful, ” The Descendants star explained in an interview with AARP.

Clooney’s confession comes after he spent more than nine months in quarantine amid the COVID-19 pandemic at his Los Angeles home.

Like many people during the lockdown, the actor turned a lot of attention to his kids and started making time for things he had put off.

One of his lesser-known talents happens to be sewing, which has been on the rise since the coronavirus was considered a pandemic in mid-March 2020.

“I sew the kids clothes a lot,” Clooney said in the February / March issue of the magazine. ‘And my wife’s dress that tore a few times. I was single for a long time and had no money, and you have to learn to fix things. ‘

He also revealed that he repaired his wife’s tattered dress after learning for years how to do repairs on his own as an old bachelor.

“If we were on an island and you had to pick someone to survive, I would pick me. Ask all my friends and they would choose me too. I can turn this into a waterspout and a can of that. ‘

The actor has made himself useful all over the house while the family settled in an enclosed space and decided to stain the furniture and the interior and exterior of his home.

“It got grubby, and I had buckets of stain, and I thought,” Well, what else am I supposed to do? ” It made me feel better. And I put chicken wire around the dog yard, ”he said.

The pandemic hasn’t stopped his passion for letter writing either.

Clooney appreciates letters, and has framed and hung letters from Walter Cronkite, Paul Newman, and Gregory Peck around his house.

The actor and his wife will also exchange letters every few months, a tradition that continues despite the health crisis.

“Even when she’s closed, I’ll write a letter and put it on her desk, or she’ll write a letter and put it under the pillow,” he said of their romantic gestures to keep the relationship spontaneous.

With Clooney fast approaching his 60th birthday, the Kentucky resident confessed he had turned down offers to appear on the cover of AARP for about 10 years.

However, he considered doing it as a joke when he celebrated his 50th birthday.

‘I wanted to do a funny piece, Sexiest Man Still Alive. I would have taken a funny picture, like with a walker, ”Clooney said in the interview.

Most recently, Clooney directed and starred in the science fiction movie The Midnight Sky, which began with a limited theatrical release in December 2020, before being released on Netflix.
