Randy Malcom, Alexander Delgado, Yotuel, Descemer Bueno took part in an emotional video conversation with the members of the San Isidro movement Luis Manuel Otero and Maykel Osorbo, after the presentation of the video clip of the new theme Homeland and Life.
Both Osorbo and Otero Alcántara stressed that they were almost all black people making art for a free Cuba, reaffirming that they were more connected than ever.
Before the music video, directed by Asylum Babastro, was launched, Descemer pointed out that it was a unique moment that will mark a before and after for Cubans.
Asylum Babastro, for his part, said that a government that lies to the population does not deserve to be in power. “I want to see a land of people who laugh, of happy people,” said the artist.
Alexander Delgado pointed out that the song reflects the sentiments of many Cubans on and off the island, many who are afraid of expressing themselves as they once did.
He also wanted to make it clear that they are not funded by anyone and that it is a song aimed at the people of Cuba, a daily victim of police abuse and censorship.
Likewise, Randy Malcom thanked everyone who participated in that production, assuring that it is a theme that reflects the feelings of all of them.
During the video call with members of the San Isidro movement, the Cuban government has shut down telecommunications in the country.
The Patria y Vida theme promises to become an anthem for Cubans who want change on the island.
“Your five-nines and I double-two are over now / sixty years are over with the dominoes locked,” says the chorus.
The text also says, “No more lies / The people ask for freedom, no more doctrine / Let’s no longer call homeland or death, but Homeland and Life.”
The song was released on February 16 and is accompanied by a recently released music video featuring key scenes from recent times in Cuba.
