Gazelle’s trade-in program for used appliances ends next year

Gazelle, the long-term buyer of used smartphones, has announced the near end of its trade-in program, which will accept people’s old iPhones, iPads, and Macs in exchange for cash.

Gazelle

The company announced the news in an email to customers, explaining that it will no longer offer its trade-in option starting February 1, 2021. Customers have until January 31st to get a quote and complete a trade-in, while anyone who has already initiated a trade-in can expect it to proceed normally.

From 1 February 2021, we will no longer offer our trade-in option on Gazelle. If you have a trade-in that is currently being processed, your trade-in will continue. You can also still log into your account to view the status of your current trade-ins.

You can still buy high quality used electronics for a fraction of the price from our online store. We’re excited to continue helping you with great prices on used smart devices!

Gazelle plans to focus on its in-store ecoATM kiosks in the future, which provide instant cash for devices, although they usually don’t offer as much back as customers would get through traditional trade-in programs.

The ecoATMs can be found in more than 4,000 locations across the United States, and the company says the kiosks collected more than 25 million devices, which equates to more than 6 million pounds of electronic waste.

Gazelle gave no reason for its decision to end its trade-in program, but several competing services have skyrocketed in popularity in recent years, including eBay’s ‘Instant Selling’ service and Apple’s own trade-in program for Apple and other devices to redeem for credit for a new one.
