Gateway Mall vaccination site, 2 pop-up clinics will be closed on Sunday due to weather

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The federally sponsored COVID-19 vaccination site at Gateway Mall will be closed around 12:30 PM on Sunday for the rest of the day due to weather conditions.

“Due to weather conditions – lightning, rain, flooding around the facility and the safety factor of not being in a paved structure, it has been decided that the Gateway Mall vaccination site will close for the rest of the day,” officials said.

There’s no need to reschedule for anyone with a scheduled appointment on Sunday – just pop in on another day anytime from 7am to 7pm or visit one of the satellite sites.

Work on the Gateway Mall site will resume Monday at 7am.

All federally-sponsored vaccination sites in the Jacksonville area have been delayed until 10 a.m. on Sunday, including the hub site at Gateway Mall on Norwood Avenue and the satellite sites at the Oceanway Community Center on Sago Avenue West and the Carver Recreation Center on 5th Avenue South in Jacksonville Beach.

The Gateway Mall site offers the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine. The satellite sites and Gateway Mall site are giving second doses of the Pfizer vaccine to those who received their first doses at those sites before April 5.

Although the Gateway Mall site has been closed early, the satellite sites will remain open on Sunday to provide a second dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

In addition, the City of Jacksonville announced just after 5:00 a.m. on Sunday that two COVID-19 vaccination sites scheduled for that day in the main library and the Brown Eastside Library would be closed due to the weather.

The large vaccination site in the Regency Square Mall – where the Pfizer vaccine is offered – will maintain normal opening hours from 9am to 5pm. The locations of The Legends Center and Edward Waters College would also be open on Sundays.
