Gas-fired police protest in Washington

Police used tear gas and stun grenades to clear out pro-Trump protesters outside the federal Capitol building before 7 p.m., the time a curfew would begin in Washington.

Police put on gas masks when they removed protesters from the Capitol. In the previous moments, there were violent clashes between the police and the protesters.

Hours earlier, dozens of supporters of President Donald Trump broke through the security perimeter and entered the Capitol as Congress rallied to confirm Democrat Joe Biden’s presidential victory. They were seen fighting officers both inside and outside the building.
