Avisaíl Garcia hit a homerun and a double for five RBI’s, and the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 9-5 on Saturday-evening, breaking a four-game winning streak.
Keston Hiura hit a three-run homer that ended a five touchdown attack in the seventh inning to make it 8-2. The Brewers won for the third time in four games.
Garcia’s homerun produced two runs off Carlos Martinez to give Milwaukee a 3-0 lead in the fifth inning. Garcia walked base in the sixth and added a two-run double in the seventh.
His performance with five RBIs represented his highest total since producing 6 on May 20, 2017, when he played for the Chicago White Sox.
Brewer’s starter Adrian Houser (1-1) allowed at least one enemy to reach base in each of his first five innings. He was retired after giving a ticket to Puerto Rican Yadier Molina at the beginning of the sixth episode.
Martinez (0-2) gave up three runs in five innings. The righthanded man has accepted seven earned runs in 10 innings this season.
For the Brewers, Venezuelans were Garcia 4-2 with two runs scored and five RBI’s, Omar Narvaez 4-2 with one run scored. Mexican Luis Urías scored 3-0.
For the Cardinals, Puerto Rican Molina 4-3 with two runs scored. The Dominican Martinez 1-0.
