Game of Thrones star joins Disney Plus’ new Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars series alongside Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen
The highly anticipated Star Wars TV series from Disney Plus, which centers on Obi-Wan Kenobi, expands the cast with Game of Thrones star Indira Varma.
The 47-year-old British actress, best known for playing Ellaria Sand in HBO’s Game of Thrones, has signed up in an unspecified role, via Deadline.
No details about Varma’s character have been revealed, although she will be joined by Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Hayden Christensen as Annakin Skywalker, both reprising their roles from the Star Wars prequel trilogy.

Return: No details about Varma’s character have been revealed, although she will be joined by Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Hayden Christensen as Annakin Skywalker, both reprising their roles from the Star Wars prequel trilogy.
No official plot details have been released at this time either, although the show is expected to take place between the final prequel trilogy movie, 2005’s Revenge of the Sith and original 1977 classic A New Hope.
McGregor recently revealed during Eddie Izzard’s charity marathon stream last month that filming will begin ‘late spring’ in Los Angeles.

He also confirmed that The Mandalorian’s Deborah Chow is directing two episodes of the Obi-Wan series.
During her Game of Thrones days, Varma’s character Ellaria Sand was the lover of Oberyn ‘The Red Viper’ Martell, played by The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal.

Joby Harold (Army of the Dead) came on board in April to write the series, replacing the outgoing Hossein Amini (Drive).
The show was first announced at D23 Expo in August 2019, although it’s still unclear when it will debut on Disney Plus.
Alec Guinness originally played Obi-Wan Kenobi in the original Star Wars trilogy, before McGregor played the younger version in the prequels.
