Gabrielle Union admits retiring to the bathroom to spend time alone with her two-year-old daughter Kaavia, husband Dwyane Wade, and three stepchildren.

The 48-year-old Bring It On actress revealed that when she needs a moment to herself from her very crowded household, she uses the same undisputed excuse.

“I can’t even come forward,” she joked in a new interview with Parents magazine. “I’ll be claiming a gastrointestinal problem in a minute to get some extra time.”

Apparently, the star’s escape to the toilet is becoming an increasingly popular trick among parents, according to a Tropicana study conducted by Wakefield Research between October 29 and November 4 among 1,000 US residents.

The study found that 49 percent of moms and dads hide in the bathroom from much-needed space amid widespread coronavirus lockdowns.

In addition, Union finds comfort in listening to positive affirmations, therapy above Zoom, and guided meditation.

“I can’t even come forward,” she joked in a new interview with Parents magazine. ‘I’ll be claiming a gastrointestinal problem as soon as to get some extra time’

In addition to her toddler and 38-year-old husband, she is also co-parents of Wade’s children Zaire, 18, Zaya, 13, and seven-year-old Xavier, from his past relationships with ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches and Basketball Wives’ alum Aja Metoyer.

His mother, Jolinda Wade and her mother, Theresa Union, along with Gabrielle’s niece and sister, are also temporarily quarantined with the couple at their 8,500 square foot Los Angeles home.

Despite feeling overwhelmed or stuffy at times, she noted that she and her husband were “very lucky” with “a very large village.”

‘We all rely on each other, and we all mess through. And when the going gets tough, we’ll show mercy, ”Union said of her family.

She also recalled that other parents asking for help do not “make” them a failure.

“Needing help doesn’t make you weak or vulnerable – it just means you need help like everyone else,” she stressed.
