Prosecutors in Georgia have launched a criminal investigation into former President Trump’s infamous January phone call asking the state’s highest-ranking election official to “find” voters to reverse his defeat in the state. According to The New York TimesFani Willis, the newly elected district attorney in Fulton County – which includes Atlanta, the state capital – has sent letters to state officials requesting them to preserve documents related to the summons. Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, who was on the other end of the line for Trump’s appeal, was one of those who received a letter. Separately, Raffensperger’s office opened an administrative inquiry into Monday’s phone call.
Jason Miller, Trump’s senior adviser, said in a statement to The Daily Beast: “The timing here is no coincidence given today’s impeachment process. This is just the Democrats’ latest attempt to score political points by continuing their witch hunt against President Trump, and everyone is seeing through it. “
