One of the largest transactions in Detroit Lions history is now officially complete. The deal that brought QB Jared Goff and a slew of design picks to Detroit in exchange for QB Matthew Stafford officially hit the NFL books and transaction thread on Thursday.
As a result, we now know what compensation the Lions are picking up in the deal.
According to the NFL transaction log, the rams will send the lions their first round in 2022 and 2023. That is known. It is the third round choice in 2021 that was in question. It will be a compensatory pick and not the regular Rams pick in the third round.
Los Angeles has two comp picks in the third round, and the exact selection is not explicitly stated in the transaction log. So instead of No. 88 in general, it’s No. 101 or No. 103.
Processing the deal was delayed for a day, so the Rams would be responsible for the $ 2.5 million roster bonus on Goff’s contract. That could have contributed to the negotiations for which the third round ends in Detroit.
As for the contracts, Goff will make $ 25,650,000 in 2021, with all but $ 650,000 fully guaranteed. The Lions are officially on the hook for $ 33 million in dead cap money for trading Stafford’s contract, per Over The Cap.
