Fox News Advertiser Distances From Tucker Carlson After Calling Jill Biden “ Illiterate. ”

Fox News presenter Tucker Carlson’s inflammatory Wednesday night segment in which he called upcoming First Lady Jill Biden “illiterate” has resulted in at least one advertiser distancing himself from the right-wing primetime host. In a statement to the Washington PostJeremy Barr, a representative for meat supplier ButcherBox, who advertised on Wednesday night’s show, said the company will strive to stop showing its ads during Carlson’s 8:00 PM ET program. However, the company continues to advertise on the network itself.

“Our current advertising strategy involves purchasing leftover ad space, which included last night’s ad,” said the representative. “One of our core values as an organization is relentless improvement, so in that spirit we will evaluate how to limit this particular time slot for future ad purchases.”

In recent years, Carlson has seen advertisers flee repeatedly over comments he has made that have been considered racist or offensive. Dozens of sponsors quit his program at the end of 2018 after saying that immigrants are making America “poorer and dirtier.” Advertisers have also dumped Carlson after he dismissed infamous concerns about white supremacy as a “hoax” in 2019 and warned viewers earlier this year about a Black Lives Matter “crowd” that “will come for you.”
