Fourth night of protests after ex-cop who killed Daunte Wright was charged

Protesters clashed with police outside police headquarters in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota for a fourth consecutive night on Wednesday in the wake of Sunday’s murder of 20-year-old black man Daunte Wright. The white former officer who shot him during a traffic stop was charged with second degree manslaughter on Wednesday.

Kim Potter, a 26-year-old veteran, was arrested and released a few hours later after posting $ 100,000 bail.

Authorities said delegates, troopers and officers were “shot at Wednesday evening with industrial-sized fireworks, spray paint, rocks and other objects.” Twenty-four people were arrested. There were 40 arrests on Monday evening and 79 on Tuesday evening.

Law enforcement occasionally used tear gas, CBS Minnesota reports. Some officers sprayed a chemical on protesters who approached the fence around the building.

Potter, 48, resigned from the Minneapolis police department on Tuesday, along with the city’s police chief.

Police stopped Wright on Sunday for expiring the tags and discovered he had an outstanding warrant. While the police tried to handcuff him, Wright jumped into his car. The former police chief said Potter thought she took her Taser, but instead pulled her gun and then fired the deadly shot.
