Fourth Houston Area Resident Indicted in US Capitol Riot – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

A Houston man accused of throwing a desk drawer and other items at officers and smashing a window during the January 6 attack on the Capitol has been arrested, federal authorities announced Friday.

According to the FBI’s Houston office, Shane Jenkins was arrested at his home on Friday morning.

According to a criminal complaint, Jenkins attended the Washington rally in support of President Donald Trump and then joined the crowd that broke through the Capitol.

FBI agents identified Jenkins from a tip and videos posted on social media and security footage. They claim he used an ax to cause $ 1,500 in damage to a window and threw various items at officers, hitting them with items such as a desk drawer and a flagpole, according to the charges.

At least five people, including a Capitol Police officer, died as a result of the violence, and two other officers committed suicide afterward. More than 300 people have been charged with federal crimes.

Jenkins is facing six charges, including assault on a federal officer and damage to federal property. The court records did not list a lawyer for Jenkins.

Authorities said Jenkins is the fourth Houston resident to be charged in the riot.

As of Feb. 26, federal charges have been filed against more than 254 people involved in the riot, including North Texans Garret Miller of Richardson, according to the George Washington University Program on Extremism; Larry Rendall Brock, of Grapevine; Nolan Cooke, from Savoy; Jennifer Leigh Ryan, of Frisco; Guy Wesley Reffitt, of Wylie; Troy Anthony Smocks, from Dallas; Nicholas DeCarlo, of Burleson; Daniel Goodwyn of Corinth; Jason Hyland, from McKinney; Katherine Schwab; Luke Coffee, from Dallas; and Daniel Caldwell, of The Colony.
