Four Dominicans arriving on an Iberia airline flight from the United Kingdom, via Madrid, Spain, were sent to a public health isolation center as a preventative measure over fears that they could be carriers of the Covid-19 species.

The plane landed at Las Americas International Airport on Tuesday.

The spokesman for the Aeropuertos Dominicanos XXI (Aerodom) company, Luis López Mena, after confirming the case, stated that each of the passengers had been tested on Covid-19, which gave negative results.

He explained that they were sent from the airport to the clubhouse of the Directorate General of Customs on the Las Américas highway to spend five days in isolation.

He explained that after five days he will be retested to detect Covid-19 and if they test negative again they will be sent home.

The Iberia plane that carried the four travelers to the Dominican Republic made flight number 6501 from England, the United Kingdom, Madrid, Spain and Santo Domingo.

Public health authorities announced on Monday that all passengers arriving in the country from the United Kingdom, England, must undergo mandatory quarantine as a preventive measure against Covid-19.

“If they are retested for five days, if they are negative, they will be sent home without any problems,” said Luis José López Mena, Corporate Director of Communications at Dominican Airports XXI Aerodom, interviewed by LISTIN DIARIO. .

Public Health also authorized approximately three humanitarian flights from the United Kingdom for the arrival of Dominicans stranded in that European country.

The Cabinets of Health and Tourism, advised the Civil Aviation Board (JAC) to suspend flights arriving from the UK until January 10, due to a newly discovered strain of the coronavirus.

One of the first humanitarian flights approved by the JAC from that country, a group of 34 nationals arrived in the Dominican Republic who underwent PCR tests and were negative.
