Four Cuban migrants trying to reach the US are trapped in Honduras

Choluteca, Honduras.

Five Cuban migrants were asked by National Police officers in the town of Choluteca, Choluteca, last Friday after attempting to cross the country to the United States. Along with the civilians, a Honduran was arrested, an alleged human smuggler who allegedly facilitates the transfer of migrants to the United States.}

The arrest was coordinated by the Transnational Criminal Investigation Unit (UTIC) of the Police Directorate for DPI Investigations, with support from the Special Tactical Operations Group, GOET. The four Cuban citizens were referred to the National Migration Institute, the entity responsible for the corresponding administrative procedure.

The detainee, of Honduran descent, is a 33-year-old farmer who lives in the La Esperanza neighborhood of the southern municipality. The person was also seized, in addition to the passenger car, the Nissan brand, in which they were traveling, in cash.

In total 990 US dollars, 280 cordobas (Nicaraguan currencyyouense) and a mobile phone. Therefore, the Honduran will be referred to the prosecutor’s office in the city of Choluteca and will have to respond to the formal charge of the crime of human trafficking against him.

Every year, thousands of Cuban, African and South American citizens cross the country to El Salvador, through the Amatillo border or blind spots. They are trying to enter the United States illegally. The Honduran security forces have increased security at border points in recent months.
