Some of the biggest football clubs in the world have teamed up with the hugely popular online game for the latest update
Football comes to Fortnite with a new update from Epic Games, including the Pele Cup and collaborations with some of the world’s biggest clubs.
The ‘Kickoff Set’, which kicks off on January 23, includes 23 club kits as playable skins, a new tournament with real and in-game prizes and the chance to ’emote’ like Brazilian icon Pele.
Twenty-three clubs from around the world, including Manchester City, Juventus, Inter, AC Milan, Santos, Los Angeles FC, Melbourne City, Celtic and Rangers (full list below), will feature specially designed male and female outfits in-game.
Players can win the new kits in the Pele Cup on January 20, with a limited-time football game mode, and play with Creative Mode’s new Football Island.
‘Pele’s Air Punch’, a new emote based on the celebration of the Brazilian legend’s goal, will be available in-store or as a prize in the Pele Cup.
Regional winners of the tournament will receive an autographed Santos shirt, while the top 3,500 players in each region will win the Pele’s Air Punch emote and a selection of character outfits.
Nate Nanzer, global head of partnerships at Epic Games, explained the partnership ESPN: “We’re thinking about the evolution of Fortnite, and all the different IP integrations we’ve done, and bringing all these different worlds into play, I think we’ve done a pretty good job in movies and comics.
Batman plays with Deadpool and Wolverine and Iron Man. We have brought all these fantastic worlds together.
“But in sports, we’ve had a great partnership with the NFL, but we haven’t really done much outside of our NFL partnership. For the past year, we’ve really focused on how to increase our footprint in the sport.
“There certainly could be things we do with modern footballers in the future, and I think given that so many of them are big Fortnite fans, there could be some cool things we do in the future.”
