Former Minister of Finance is questioned for the third time at the PEPCA

Former Treasury Secretary Donald Guerrero went to the Special Prosecutor for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (PEPCA) for the second time this Monday, where he was interrogated for three hours straight.

As agreed, Guerrero arrived at 3:00 p.m. at the headquarters of the Attorney General of the Republic, located in the Heroes’ Center of the capital.

When he arrived, the journalists asked him about his appearance, but he limited himself to the comment: “We have come to continue what we started on Friday, I have no comment at the moment when we come back.”

Leaving the interrogation, he did not report his next subpoena, which is scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, at 4 PM.

The former Treasury Secretary was accompanied by three legal representatives, who held large suitcases that are believed to have had documentation for his statement. The former official is being questioned about the amounts in his affidavit of assets proposed in the amount of RD $ 768,321,216, and about the management of the funds during his tenure with the Treasury Department.

Although the former official reported on Friday that the investigation was limited to his asset declaration, it has been found to be part of a broader investigation by the Attorney General’s Office into irregularities in the performance of their duties at the Treasury Department.

The prosecutor is expected to provide more details this week on the examinations of the former official and other ongoing investigations.

Guerrero is being questioned by Yeni Berenice Reynoso, general director of the prosecution for corruption prosecution, and Wilson Camacho, head of the PEPCA.

Get started

The interrogation was suspended last Friday due to commitments from the former government official headed by Danilo Medina (2016-2020).

Guerrero was Finance Minister during that reign and is a member of the Central Committee of the then ruling party and now opposition Dominican Liberation Party (PLD).

He was coordinator of the external sector of the PLD’s presidential candidate Gonzalo Castillo during the last election process.

As of September 2020, a month after taking office, attorney Mirian Germán Brito has made it clear that the prosecution will investigate current and former officials who fail to provide affidavits, display unjustified assets or falsify data.

Later the prosecutor said that anyone needed for questioning will be called for questioning.

Deputy Prosecutor, Yeni Berenice Reynoso, warned in an interview in September that “any complaint related to the disappearance or theft of a peso from the state will not remain without an investigation.”

And Attorney Camacho said it will be “in due course” when the prosecutor will prosecute those who cannot justify the assets they reported to the Court.
