Former GOP Senator Proposes Forming New Party, Calls Trump ‘Ringmaster’ of Republicans

William Cohen, a former Republican Senator from Maine and Secretary of Defense under former President Clinton, rebuked GOP lawmakers against the results of the 2020 presidential election in an interview on Thursday proposing the formation of a new political party.

Cohen made the comments on CNN’s “The Situation Room” while he addressed Sen. “We must remember that the current White House resident is a ringmaster and what he expects to do is whip his whip and all the elephants jump on chairs,” Cohen said. What they need to understand is that he keeps whipping the whip whether he’s in the office or out of the office. And every time they have to jump up and sit on that stool to satisfy him and his supporters. ‘

“He always goes one step further, he cannot be satisfied. There is nothing in him. There is no moral core, and so they will be extorted or bribed to avoid a 2022 or 2024 primary,” Cohen continued.

When discussing the future of the Republican Party, Cohen noted a clear rift between the GOP lawmakers, saying that more centrist Republicans like Sens. He asked, where are the legislators “standing up for the rule of law?”

“For Trump, it’s pathological, for those who are jumping up to support him, it’s devilish and I don’t think it’s devilishly smart. I think they will find themselves held hostage for the rest of their time in the Senate. they’re just there to appease the Trumpsters, ”he said.

‘Maybe it’s time for a new party. A party that adheres to the rule of law, ‘Cohen concluded. “But also loyal to the people of this country, who vote to choose them.”
