The former Alabama senator predicted on CNN that Biden’s Justice Department will investigate what happened in the run-up to and during the raid on the Capitol by the president’s supporters last week.
“I think the Justice Department is going to look into this,” he said. And it’s not just the people who, as I said, storm the Capitol. All of the people who spoke at that meeting recently that seemed to trigger this – they should be a little concerned now. “
Jones, who was replaced by Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), Called on the incoming Justice Department to “look carefully at what was said by each speaker” and “what they turned on at the time.”
“Whether they are facing criminal charges, I have no opinion on that at the moment, but I think everything is on the table to watch,” said the former senator.
“That is the most important. I think people in America deserve to know exactly what happened – that those who have broken the law must suffer some form of consequence, ”he continued.
The Alabama Democrat asked investigators to look at the recent months leading up to last week’s riot that resulted in at least five deaths, including a Capitol police officer and one rioters who were shot. He called for “accountability” and said “there is an awful lot at stake” but noted that the process should not be rushed.
“We can’t let this pass,” he said. ‘We have to make sure that people are held accountable. That’s not just the people who came in and screamed and destroyed the Capitol, but also the people who turned this on. “
“They don’t have to rush this because then people go to their partisan corners and that’s the last thing we need now,” he added.

Speakers, including Trump himself, addressed a crowd of protesters last week after the president called on his supporters to arrive in DC on the day Congress was scheduled to confirm President-elect Joe Biden’s election victory.
In his speech, Trump encouraged his supporters to march to the Capitol, while reiterating his baseless claims that the election was affected by widespread voter fraud. Soon after, a pro-Trump mob broke in and destroyed the Capitol.
